May I say, it is a privilege to become Town Mayor for North Walsham 2013-14. It is lovely to give something back to the town where I grew up. I was born in North Walsham Cottage Hospital and have lived here most of my life apart from a few years in Sutton and abroad.
My chosen charity is Arthritis Care (North Walsham) where any money raised will be ring fenced for children in this area, who suffer from this debilitating illness.
Due to personal circumstances I have become interested in trying to assist North Walsham gain defibrillators in strategic places. Thanks to the help of Mr. Williams from a local business and contributions from North Walsham & District Lions Club, the Lodge of Unanimity, North Walsham & District Rotary Club plus North Walsham Town Council, two defibrillators will soon be available at either end of the town centre. I have personally contacted other companies with a view to them possibly funding/installing one in their premises. It is hoped to produce a map of the locations of the defibrillators to be displayed on the Town Council notice board.
The town has suffered in this difficult financial climate, but we are gradually beginning to see some improvement. Councillors are constantly working behind the scenes to continue the positive work. This term we have already seen the opening of Davenports Magic Kingdom, finally signed the lease for Midland Road car park and have an addition to our local station of a £26,000 ticket machine. The Funday in the park was a great success as was the Medieval Festival to commemorate the Peasant's Revolt. A dance festival will be held early September. I look forward to seeing some more positive events happen in the coming year.
